About the Saree -
Benarasi sarees are made in Varanasi, a sacred ancient city also known as Benaras. They have a rich history tracing back to 1000 BC and have been mentioned in the Rigveda and the Ramayana. They are made of finely woven silks and have artistic and intricately woven motifs from Indian mythology. They historically have been woven with real silver and gold zari threads. These heritage weaves are beloved because they are luxurious and have a rich history. It is considered mandatory for a bride from North India to include a benarasi saree in her wedding trousseau.
